The date was April twenty, twenty-ten
The place was the deep water horizon
They called it an accident
But the plot was intricate
Fifty miles from the coast, four execs were ready to boast
They had bested the time frame
Unaware of the flame they couldn’t tame
Hours before midnight the rig unleashed a fiery thrill
And so began the saga of the BP oil spill
Let’s start with the why before the what
Here are the days leading up
First the government agency void of common decency
Minerals management service, the oil industry accomplice
Created to collect royalties and set regulations
Instead formed relations and left the rules up to the corporations
In steps Transocean, the company whose rigs are always in motion
Even if they needed a fix, stopping production they’d never nix
And for Beyond Petroleum, aka BP, this wasn't the first time
Of all the suspects they rank prime
Their tactics were grime just to squeeze the extra dime
Eighty-six days it lasted while the pipe blasted
It’s been capped but we’re far from past it
Eleven deceased, five million barrels released
And the fall out continues to increase
While Wetlands rapidly decrease
Under the surface murky madness looms
In the form of bloody oil plumes
Please don't walk on the dunes
Footprints still left from the goons
They speak childishly as toons
Hot-air filled balloons
CEO Tony Hayward quote, “just wants his life back”
Our way of life they dont give a jack
Our industry is under attack
Except it’s also our home, a concept they lack
EPA warned but they still used toxic dispersants
All actions had an aroma of arrogance
They exhibit signs of disconnect
Only their own assets they care to protect
The Equipment was outdated
The safety report card was x-rated
Now everything is in court being debated
We have a small sample size
But compared to Exxon Valdez, BP’s was seventeen times the demise
Twenty years later and Alaskan wildlife still hadnt recovered
A millenium of Earth dependent society has suffered
Read about Chief Meganack and the day the water died
Thought of our dependence on nature and almost cried
I’m BEYOND PETROLEUM, forever in my eyes oil will be despised
The government called it an elemental crime
Yet none of the big-wigs will serve any time
It really pays to be white collar and only chase the extra dollar
They constantly shit on the Blue, I’m talking water
As well as me and YOU
