MeMe

When Richard Dawkins coined the term “meme” he was trying to explain something scientific that did not readily lend itself to quantification. One unit of culture(M). Meme as rhymed with gene, as in The Selfish Gene, his revolutionary book on evolutionary biology. Stating that memes, like genes, replicate in a formulaic sense to alter species survival. Whether deployed for mating (append generic Dead Poets Society quote HERE), in-group / outgroup establishment (rep dat Flag), or  market forces(bullying for some sweet, sweet ice cream or lunch money), memes are the building blocks of culture. We have long established memes like face painting, to the instantaneous tech-dopia of gifs. The Meme War has won against all other competitors except itself, where only complete annihilation of the host can the meme war ever be truly lost to no further generations. Any fragments buried under the ash could ignite the next great meme war. To borrow a meme, a Phoenix.

A fundamentally post-scarcity world juxtaposed with a volatile climate and depleting resources, is the fertile ground for the Technological Society as described by French Theorist Jacques Ellul. Ellul says education is prepropaganda, and propaganda must be total. As scientific research on the basest of meme building blocks, emotions, as function of brain wiring, the techniques to essentially mind control become all encompassing. An effect that can even haunt you while you're sleeping. From color schemes to background noise to aroma therapy, memes have invaded every territory. 

The coiner of meme, Dawkins has become a meme himself. A post-colonial curmudgeon in it’s twilight oscillating between the best and worst of what it means to be human. Or as Ellul puts it, “the mass man is clearly sub-human, but pretends to be superhuman.” Man, the Mass, and Memes are History. Memes are Machiavellian. Memes are the narrative but have no responsibility to the truth or anything except social darwinism. Memes like genes are just trying to survive. If social-darwinism wasn’t already a meme it would be a good descriptor.  Self selecting meomle - Homo Sapios, signaling the extraterrestrial but splintering into interspecies squabbles. For the great meme struggle for supremacy will ultimately end with total destruction by the MemeLord that was promised, in one last EPIC troll for the lols. Ol’ Dick Dawkins was onto something then turned into a caricature .
